Local media have devoted considerable attention to the award of the Catalonia International Award (Premi Internacional de Catalunya), presented by the Government of Catalonia, to Joan Massagué, Josep Baselga, and Manel Esteller.
La Vanguardia highlighted the close relationship between Joan Massagué and IRB Barcelona, as he was the cofounder of the Institute and now serves as chair of its External Advisory Board.

The Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) pursues a society free of disease.
