Biospain is the main biotechnology event in southern Europe and one of the largest in the world by the number of one-to-one meetings and companies participating.

This year this biennial fair will be held from 24 to 26 September in Santiago de Compostela.

From 24 to 26 September, IRB Barcelona’s Innovation Office will move to Santiago de Compostela to participate in the Biospain Fair, the main biotech meeting in Southern Europe and 5th in the world ranking with respect to the number of partnering meetings. The 7th Biospain Fair is expected to involve 2,775 one-to-one meetings and the participation of 762 companies and 217 exhibitors. BioSpain 2012, held in Bilbao, hosted delegates from 28 countries.

"Biospain offers us the opportunity to introduce our technology portfolio to investors and potential licensees in one-to-one meetings and promote new collaborative projects between industry and IRB scientists," says Tiago Botelho, Industrial Liaison at IRB Barcelona.

IRB Barcelona will present several projects included in BioMedTec, IRB Barcelona’s bioincubator platform, which is supported by the "la Caixa" Foundation. "In Biospain we seek collaboration in projects related to diverse types of cancer and new antibiotic compounds," explains Cristina Horcajada, head of the Office of Innovation.

Iproteos too

Iproteos, one of the three spin-offs from IRB Barcelona laboratories, will also be present in Biospain. Founded by Ernest Giralt and Teresa Tarrago, this company specializes in new treatments for diseases of the central nervous system, such as schizophrenia, Parkinson's, and epilepsy.

The Biospain Fair is organized by Asebio, the Spanish Bioindustry Association—which both IRB Barcelona and Iproteos are members of—and co-organized on this occasion by various local organisations coordinated by the Xunta de Galicia (the Autonomous Government of Galicia).
