During the event, IRB Barcelona received the second donation for research into cancer and metastasis from the “Vi per Vida” charity.

On Saturday 9 April, the “Pavelló Firal” in Mollerussa hosted the latest “Vi per Vida” charity wine-tasting session, in which more than 250 people had the opportunity to savour 5 wines belonging to distinct Catalan D.O.s (designation of origin). Launched in 2014 by the sommelier Xavier Ayala, this charity initiative raises funds for research into cancer metastasis undertaken at IRB Barcelona. During the event, “Vi per Vida” presented IRB Barcelona with a cheque of more than 5,000€, corresponding to the proceeds collected in 2015. This is the second cheque that the centre has received.

Andreu Casali, associate researcher at IRB Barcelona working in the Colorectal Cancer Lab, received the cheque on behalf of the institute. Casali thanked people for participating in activities of this nature: Vi per Vida is not just a fun activity but also contributes to increasing social awareness of the value of investigation and furthering cutting-edge research in Catalonia.”

6th wine-tasting event—first one in 2016

The organisers expressed their satisfaction with the response to this year’s activities, both the wine-tasting session and the parallel events, such as the Paddle Tennis Tournament, which involved 140 participants. “I think we have come up trumps,” says Ayala. “The response of those behind the scenes, those who have made donations, and those who have joined us for the wine-tasting event is absolutely fantastic.

“Vi per Vida” plans to organize two more wine-tasting sessions in 2016—one in Conca de Barberà and the other in Calella.
