Effective Writing for Scientific Research

Getting published is crucial for success in biomedicine, and one of the most important skills that any successful scientist must master is the ability to write about their research clearly, concisely and effectively. The next Barcelona BioMed Workshop on Effective Writing for Scientific Research will take place on Wednesday, December 15.
This interactive workshop will help participants to:
- Select an appropriate target journal for their paper
- Plan the content of the paper for maximum impact
- Write clearly, concisely and persuasively
- Avoid common mistakes
- Maximise their chances of publication and citation.
Participants are invited to bring along their own work, to be used as the basis for practical exercises. Topics covered include: How scientific journals work. Working with editors and reviewers. Structuring each section of the paper - Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion and Conclusions. Choosing and using references. Writing an effective Title and Abstract. Effective paragraph and sentence structure. How to make your writing more concise. Editing and proofreading your paper. How to submit your paper. Incorporating reviewers' comments. What to do if you are rejected. How to maximise your chances of citation.
This course will be led by Jane Fraser, a scientific writer and editor with more than 20 years of experience in biomedical publishing.
