IRB Barcelona in the media
Intrinsically disordered proteins could play a key role in several chronic diseases
11 October 2010
The journal Diario Médico has published an article on the latest Barcelona BioMed conference called Intrinsically Disordered Proteins (IDPs) in Biomedicine. These sessions have been funded by BBVA and organized by Miquel Pons and Pau Bernadó, from IRB Barcelona, and Peter Wright, from the Scripps Research Institute in the United States. IDPs were discovered about ten years ago and revolutionized the protein-function concept. "While most of the proteins known are like a screwdriver because they have a certain structure and often perform a single function, IDPs are like Swiss army knives, that is to say, they are multifunctional," says Bernadó.
