IRB Barcelona is a self-standing, non-profit institution devoted to basic and applied biomedical research. It was set up in 2005 jointly by the Government of Catalonia and the University of Barcelona and is located at the Barcelona Science Park. The institute currently has more than 450 members (scientific, technical and administrative staff) from all over the world, who work across disciplines to advance research in the biomedical sciences.

IRB Barcelona seeks an Industrial Postdoc to work in the Stem Cell and Cancer group, headed by Prof. Salvador Aznar Benitah, to support a sponsored drug discovery programme in collaboration with ONA Therapeutics S.L., a recently founded startup located at the Barcelona Science Park (Parc Científic de Barcelona, PCB).


Ona Therapeutics is a biotech company, spin-off of ICREA and Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), specialized in the discovery and development of therapeutic biologics targeting tumor metastatic-initiating cells and lipid metabolism (


The candidate will be involved in the discovery and preclinical development of a novel anticancer therapy, based on the results generated at Prof. Benitah’s lab. The postdoc will be physically located at the lab of Prof. Benitah to carry out specific research and development work to support the drug discovery program in collaboration wirth ONA Therapeutics. 


Must Have – Required


  • PhD degree in life sciences or similar
  • FELASA accreditation is essential
  • Strong background in mouse cancer models
  • Ability to work in an efficient and organized manner
  • Good teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to plan and conduct experiments and to record and analyze data
  • Independent, motivated and collaborative person
  • Candidate must be fluent in English




  • Proven knowledge of the drug discovery process/biotech industry would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of Spanish and/or Catalan would also be an advantage
