IRB Barcelona is a self-standing, non-profit institution devoted to basic and applied biomedical research. It was set up in 2005 jointly by the Government of Catalonia and the University of Barcelona and is located at the Barcelona Science Park. The institute currently has more than 430 members (scientific, technical and administrative staff) from all over the world, who work across disciplines to advance research in the biomedical sciences.

IRB Barcelona seeks a Laboratory Technician to work in the Colorectal Cancer Laboratory (Dr. Eduard Batlle) at the Oncology Programme. The successful candidate will be employed under a fixed – term contract to cover a maternity leave (approximately 7 months).

  • To perform routine histological techniques (immunohistochemistry, etc.) for the Colorectal Cancer Lab.
  • To prepare solutions and reagents for special staining procedures amongst others.
  • To perform routine Cell Culture and maintenance and storage of stocks from the laboratory
  • To perform routine PCR analysis as quality control of cell culture samples
  • To perform Lab management tasks such as ordering lab reagents, material, organizing lab maintenance.
  • To promote the flow of information by establishing, utilizing, and maintaining an effective communication within and outside the laboratory.
  • To keep high quality standards.



Must Have – Required

  •  Experience: Higher National Diploma (Cicle Formatiu Grau Superior or FP2) or Bachelor degree. Proven experience in a similar position.
  •  Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of histological techniques such as regular staining (H/E, etc.) and immunohistochemistry.
  • Skills: The candidate should have high organization capacity and should be tidiness, service-oriented person and willing to learn.
  • Languages: English (fluent).


  • Cell Culture experience
  • Molecular Biology Skills (PCR)
