IRB Barcelona is a self-standing, non-profit institution devoted to basic and applied biomedical research. It was set up in 2005 jointly by the Government of Catalonia and the University of Barcelona and is located at the Barcelona Science Park. The institute currently has more than 430 members (scientific, technical and administrative staff) from all over the world, who work across disciplines to advance research in the biomedical sciences.

IRB Barcelona seeks a PhD Student candidate to apply for the call of the Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades Ayudas para contratos predoctorales para la formación de doctores 2018, to be published in September 2019.

The successful candidate will work on the project Molecular Modelling and Bioinformatics laboratory,  (Ref. SEV-2015-0500-19-1, PI Prof. M. Orozco), and will be focused on the development of theoretical tools for the representation of chromatin structure. The student will work in a multidisciplinary team developing multi-scale models representing physical behavior of DNA in the eukaryotic nucleus.

The thesis will be directed by Prof. Modesto Orozco, PI of the Molecular Modelling and Bioinformatics laboratory.

Profile: 

- the studies that lead to an official Spanish (or from another country of the European Higher Education Area) university degree with outstanding qualifications in Maths, Physics, Chemistry or related fields and that have 300 credits (ECTS), of which at least 60 must correspond to master level.

- a degree in a non-Spanish university not adapted to the European Higher Education Area that gives access to doctoral studies in Maths, Physics, Chemistry or related fields.

A double degree Physics/Maths or Physics/Chemistry and experience in Computational Biology will be a plus.
