IRB Barcelona is a self-standing, non-profit institution devoted to basic and applied biomedical research. It was set up in 2005 jointly by the Government of Catalonia and the University of Barcelona and is located at the Barcelona Science Park. The institute currently has more than 430 members (scientific, technical and administrative staff) from all over the world, who work across disciplines to advance research in the biomedical sciences.

IRB Barcelona is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher for a nine-month project in the Development and Morphogenesis in Drosophila group led by Dr. Jordi Casanova to study metamorphosis of adult progenitor cells.

  • The work will focus on unveiling the role of different genes in Drosophila larval transitions and metamorphosis. To do so the candidate will have to perform quantitative analysis of ecdysteroids and gene expression in Drosophila in different genetic backgrounds.

Must Have – Required



  • Experience: PhD in Biology is required. Experience on drosophila genetics and development, molecular biology and biochemistry and statistical analysis.


  • Knowledge: Metamorphosis genetic control, insect endocrinology and statistics.


  • Skills: Drosophila tissue dissection, RT-qPCR, ELISA, Immunostaining, R studio.
  • Working conditions: Employed in compliance with Spanish legislation and regulations under a full-time contract. Employees receive the benefits of the Spanish Social Security system covering sickness, maternity/paternity leaves and injuries at work.
