IRB Barcelona is a self-standing, non-profit institution devoted to basic and applied biomedical research. It was set up in 2005 jointly by the Government of Catalonia and the University of Barcelona and is located at the Barcelona Science Park. The institute currently has more than 430 members (scientific, technical and administrative staff) from all over the world, who work across disciplines to advance research in the biomedical sciences.

IRB Barcelona seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher to work in the Colorectal Cancer Laboratory (Dr. Eduard Batlle) at the Cancer Science Programme. The successful candidate will be employed under a fixed–term contract to cover a 3 years project starting in April 2020. The project aims to investigate the biology of cancer stem cells and the heterogeneity of colorectal cancer.

  • Co-lead, together with the principal investigator, a research line on cancer stem cell biology.
  • Experimental design and execution.
  • Supervision of PhD students.
  • Attendance and participation in conferences
  • To promote the flow of information by establishing, utilizing, and maintaining an effective communication within and outside the laboratory.
  • To keep high quality standards.

Must Have – Required


  • Experience: Doctoral degree. Proven experience in a similar position is a must. Training in international leading laboratories is a merit.


  • Previous work in the area of cancer will be highly valuable.


  • Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of cell culture techniques and cell culture assays (transient transfection, growth assays, FACS), Molecular Biology Skills (PCR; cloning; growing plasmids), flow cytometry.


  • The candidate should have high organization and communication capacities.


  • Languages: English (fluent).
