IRB Barcelona is a self-standing, non-profit institution devoted to basic and applied biomedical research. It was set up in 2005 jointly by the Government of Catalonia and the University of Barcelona and is located at the Barcelona Science Park. The institute currently has more than 430 members (scientific, technical and administrative staff) from all over the world, who work across disciplines to advance research in the biomedical sciences.

IRB Barcelona is seeking a Purchasing Assistant for the Finance, Purchasing and General Services Department.

She or He will be incorporated to the Purchasing Section that currently has three members. Your daily work will respond to internal demand (from laboratories and departments) as well as external demand (suppliers, transport and storage).

  • Managing purchasing requests with assigned suppliers.


  • Negotiating and dealing with suppliers in order to organize a price list for each year.


  • Updating and maintaining the products, prices, possible suppliers in the database.


  • Managing and sending import customs documentation.


  • Giving support to Section Head of Purchasing with a ticketing application Open Source.

Must Have – Required


  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience as an administrative support in Research Laboratories or Purchasing Departments from the Pharmaceutical, Health or Biotechnology sector.


  • Knowledge:
    • Administrative FPII or CFGS
    • Advanced Excel skills
    • SAP Business One user
    • English (Intermediate level)


  • Skills:
    • Teamwork skills
    • Good organisational, planning and multi-tasking capacities
    • Results-oriented person
