IRB Barcelona is a self-standing, non-profit institution devoted to basic and applied biomedical research. It was set up in 2005 jointly by the Government of Catalonia and the University of Barcelona and is located at the Barcelona Science Park. The institute currently has more than 430 members (scientific, technical and administrative staff) from all over the world, who work across disciplines to advance research in the biomedical sciences.

IRB Barcelona seeks an enthusiastic Programmer to join our bioinformatics team in the Molecular Modeling and Bioinformatics group (Structural Bioinformatics Program), under the framework of various H2020 funded European projects: BioExcel, Human Brain Project, Multiscale Complex Genomics (coordinated by IRB) and Elixir-Excelerate.

Duties: 

We are looking for a candidate able to work building a bridge between researchers (biologists, chemists, physicists, mathematicians, etc.) and the computational science field, applying software best practices to the existing codes, making them more usable, reproducible and interoperable.   

 

Profile: 

Must Have – Required

  • Experience: No previous experience in a similar position is required.
  • Knowledge: Bachelor degree or higher in Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Biomedicine or similar.
  • Skills: 
    • Fluent English and good teamwork skills.
    • Excellent Linux OS skills.

Desirable

  • Knowledge:
    • HTML5, CSS3, PHP, Javascript
    • Scripting languages (Perl or Python)
    • noSQL databases (MongoDB or similar)
    • Statistical computing (R)
    • HPC queue systems (SLURM,  SGE)
