IRB Barcelona is a self-standing, non-profit institution devoted to basic and applied biomedical research. It was set up in 2005 jointly by the Government of Catalonia and the University of Barcelona and is located at the Barcelona Science Park. The institute currently has more than 430 members (scientific, technical and administrative staff) from all over the world, who work across disciplines to advance research in the biomedical sciences.

IRB Barcelona is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant for the Molecular Biophysics Laboratory, to assist in the preparation of samples for biophysical characterization.

Duties: 
  • Express (in E. coli), purify and handle proteins and peptides

 

  • Characterize the biophysical properties of such peptides and proteins by using circular dichroism, dynamical light scattering and biomolecular nuclear magnetic resonance

 

  • Carry out and analyse basic molecular dynamics simulations of such peptides
Profile: 

Must Have – Required

 

  • Experience: at least 6 month experience expression in (E. coli), purification and handling of protein and peptide samples, circular dichroism, dynamical light scattering.

 

  • Knowledge: MSc in Biochemistry, Biophysics or equivalent and able to work, communicate and report in English.

 

  • Skills: Basic molecular biology methods.

 

Desirable

 

  • Experience: experience in sample preparation for electron microscopy, experience in procedures for handling aggregation-prone peptides

 

  • Knowledge: Basic Linux commands, Python programming language

 

  • Skills: Scripting and data management in Python
