Platforms

Barcelona BioMed Conferences provide a new platform where leading researchers can meet to present and discuss breakthroughs in several fields of the biomedical sciences. The conferences aim to provide a highly-focused think-tank atmosphere for a select group of participants. About twenty speakers, chosen from among the top international researchers in their field, are joined by a limited number of participants, selected on the basis of their scientific experience, for an intensive three-day hands-on discussion of latest research in their field.

Primary School students

We engage school kids at all levels of their education in our outreach activities to help foster their interest in and passion for science, and help them on the road to choosing a career in science and technology.

Leading international scientists from different areas of the biomedical sciences are invited to present and discuss their results and ideas in a series of weekly seminars. These seminars allow IRB Barcelona researchers and the local scientific community to learn about the latest developments in the life sciences, and provide an opportunity for direct contact with each seminar speaker. Barcelona BioMed Seminars are open to the scientific community, capacity permitting.

Barcelona BioMed Workshops aim to provide an important training mechanism whereby scientists at all levels can keep abreast of the latest tools and techniques used in their fields. The workshops host expert speakers and trainers from basic research and industry who provide theoretical background and hands-on practical training for small groups of participants. Topics cover a wide range of areas in basic and applied research, and related laboratory activities

crazy about medicine

This flagship year-long mentoring programme brings 24 high school students in their first year of baccalaureate into the lab for hands-on learning. Theoretical and practical sessions are led by IRB Barcelona students on Saturday mornings, with a goal to fostering passion and vocation for scientific careers. Students also have the opportunity to do their high-school science project under the tutelage of an IRB Barcelona researcher.

CCCB/Adrià Goula

'Science today for the medicine of the future' was a conference series within the Barcelona BioMed Perspectives programme, organized by IRB Barcelona and hosted by the CCCB (Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona). Its goal was to provide insight into current research developments and the challenges facing our scientists today in order to discover the medicine of tomorrow.

teachers

IRB Barcelona organises regular science training workshops for high school teachers,, bringing them together with our scientists to investigate some of the current questions in molecular medicine and to get a hands-on look at the methodologies used. Scientists and teachers work together to develop and refine materials and resources to take back to the classroom

Barcelona BioMed Forum activities bring together members of our scientific community, scholars from other disciplines as well as members of the public for multidisciplinary debate about issues related to biomedical science with the ultimate goal of bringing science and society closer together.

General Public

IRB Barcelona strongly believes that scientific institutes have an obligation to inform the public of our work and to encourage an open dialogue about an area of science that is likely to have a huge impact on people’ s lives.

PhD Students Symposium

The PhD Student Symposium is an event organised biennially by IRB Barcelona PhD students. Young scientists are given the opportunity to participate in all the aspects of designing and managing a complex scientific event. Events have taken in place in 2009, 2011 and 2013 and the next one will be in 2015. Nobel-Prize winners and top scientists meet and discuss with younger researchers cutting-edge and interdisciplinary themes in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.

The 1st European PhD and Postdoc Symposium

ENABLE is the 1st European PhD and Postdoc Symposium and it will be held in Barcelona from the 15th to the 17th of November 2017. Its ais is to highlight recent advances and applications of modern techniques and models in biomedical research. The symposium is organised by PhD students and Postdocs from four international institutes. It offers top-notch scientific lectures as well as opportunities for young scientists to interact with established scientists.

We offer a summer internship programme for undergraduate students giving them an opportunity to participate hands-on in on-going research projects conducted by our young researchers at IRB Barcelona. A new programme, Maths4Life, provides an additional opportunity for motivated undergraduates and MSc students with a strong interest in mathematics and statistics.
