The IRB Barcelona has now its own legal status through which to manage the future of the centre. The first meeting of the board of trustees appointed Joan J. Guinovart, researcher and senior professor with the Dept. of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of the UB, as director of the Institute. In this new phase, the distinguished scientist Joan Massagué will also join the management team of the centre.

The institute began its activity in PCB facilities on the initiative of the UB and was set up to coordinate and promote research of excellence in the field of biomedicine. In this regard, the PCB has consolidated itself as an ideal setting in which to establish centres of this...
