The Senate of the University of Jaén has awarded an honorary degree to the scientist Joan Massagué, adjunct director of the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), Chairman of the Cancer Biology and Genetics Programme at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) and researcher at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
The consortium involves the research group headed by María J. Macías, specialist in the determination of biomolecular structures.
Researcher and Adjunct Director of the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), Joan Massagué, has received the International Prize of the Santiago Dexeus Font Foundation in recognition of his work in cancer research.
The Santiago Dexeus Font Foundation prize is an international recognition, given to individuals, groups or institutions working in health sciences.

This afternoon the vice-president of the Generalitat de Catalunya (Autonomous Government of Catalonia), Josep-Lluís Carod-Rovira, has named Joan Massagué, adjunct director of the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) and director of the Cancer Biology and Genetics Programme at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), Ambassador of the BioRegion of Catalonia.
