We engage school kids at all levels of their education in our outreach activities to help foster their interest in and passion for science, and help them on the road to choosing a career in science and technology.

The programmes we participate in include:

Research in Primary School

(Recerca a Primária)

A bimonthly research activity to bring science closer to primary school students through guided tours and active participation in experiments. This programme is organized by the PCB, with the close participation of IRB Barcelona researchers.

   Barcelona International Youth Science Challenge (BIYSC)

IRB Barcelona is a partner institute involved in this innovative event that aims to connect passionate high school science students throughout the world with the best researchers in this field to be the change makers of the future. Find more information for the 2016 edition here.

 

  Crazy About Biomedicine

This flagship year-long mentoring programme brings 24 high school students in their first year of baccalaureate into the lab for hands-on learning. Theoretical and practical sessions are led by IRB Barcelona students on Saturday mornings, with a goal to fostering passion and vocation for scientific careers. Students also have the opportunity to do their high-school science project under the tutelage of an IRB Barcelona researcher.

Young people and science

(Young people and science)

A summer science camp, called E2C3, where volunteer scientists come up with proposals for scientific activities for the camp, which takes place in the CX MónNatura Pirineus between the end of June and the beginning of July. Each team consists of 2-3 scientists who lead groups of 10 high-school students through a 10-day programme of science and fun.

Research in Secondary School

(Research in Secondary School )

A mentoring programme to assist secondary school students with their research projects. Students are paired with IRB Barcelona researchers who help them with background information and literature searches, guide them through practical experiments in an IRB Barcelona lab, and provide them with feedback on their written project.
