Results about: peptides
Our research focuses on three angles of peptide and protein chemistry: the design, synthesis and structure of bioactive molecules. From a structural perspective, we apply modern NMR techniques to study complex molecular recognition processes.
Chiral molecules are those that are not superimposable on their mirror image. Consequently, there can be two distinct isomers of these molecules, called enantiomers. Many of the compounds associated with living organisms are chiral, for example proteins, enzymes, DNA, hormones, etc.
For the scientific community, the protein POP (prolyl oligopeptidase) is an attractive therapeutic target for the treatment of cognitive and neurodegenerative disorders.
Scientists at IRB Barcelona have developed the first POP inhibitors that are irreversible, selective and brain-permeable.
The molecules synthesized by Ernest Giralt’s lab at IRB Barcelona bind a key protein in cancer that has received little attention as a therapeutic target.
The long-term goal is to provide a new chemotherapy treatment.
Meritxell Teixidó and Núria Bayó, researchers at IRB Barcelona, have completed the first stage of the LLAVOR (seed) Programme aimed to support innovation
