Doing your PhD at IRB Barcelona

Permanent open call for PhD Candidates

IRB Barcelona is looking for young scientists from the national and international community who wish to do their PhD in a stimulating environment, rich in technological resources and campus life. We encourage applications from highly motivated biologists, biochemists, chemists, physicists, pharmacologists and computational scientists with outstanding qualifications. Successful candidates will join research groups with top-level scientists and will carry out their research in cutting-edge areas of biomedicine.

The PhD students joining IRB Barcelona may also apply to competitive calls that fund PhD fellowships. Frequent examples in the Institute are the predoctoral fellowships from the Spanish “Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness” and from the “Ministry of Education and Culture”, among others. The PhD students joining IRB Barcelona have to comply with the admission rules of the Institute.

Each PhD candidate (for any non-IRB fellowship or contract) is interviewed by a Selection Committee. This Selection Committee is formed by 2 GLs: o A member of the PhD Advisory Committee of the programme in which the candidate is interested. o A GL from the same or related programme who is appointed by the aforementioned member of the PhD Advisory Committee. Interviews are on an individual basis (i.e. not competitive), that is to say, they serve to guarantee the standards of quality of the institute. The Selection Committee evaluates the candidate and produces a written report with the evaluation and recommendation. The report is a tool to help us recruit the best candidates and guarantee standards of quality.
