Biostatistics / Bioinformatics Unit: Get started on Statistical Concepts, Experimental Design and Exploratory Tools

27 Nov 19

The mission of the Biostatistics/Bioinformatics Unit is to conduct collaborative research and to provide consultation and quantitative research resources to all IRB Barcelona research groups.

We assist scientists by providing both short and long-term consultancy services in the following areas:

• Experimental design • Data analysis • Assistance with statistical methodology in own or others’ research • Software: help in using software, development of software to meet special data analysis or study design needs

Speakers

Camille Stephan-Otto Attolini - IRB Barcelona  Facility Manager

Camille has a degree in pure mathematics (UNAM, Mexico, 2002) and a PhD in biomathematics from the University of Vienna (2006). Her doctoral research was devoted to the relationship between genotype and phenotype and its impact on the origin of life and evolution. She moved to MSKCC in New York for a postdoctoral position in mathematical modeling of cancer as an evolutionary process. She joined the biostatistics and bioinformatics unit at IRB in 2010, performed as acting manager since June 2013 and was recently appointed manager of the facility.

Toni Berenguer – Senior Research Officer at IRB Barcelona

MSc in Statistics and Operations Reseach (UPC) - Bioinformatics and Biostatistics
Toni is a Biostatistician / Biomedical Data Scientist. His approach to data analysis lies on a strong background in Applied Statistics and a proper understanding of the biological or clinical problem underlying the data, a profile that has been shaped by near 15 years of experience as a consultant and an assistant in Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Biomedicine research. These perspective are enriched by skills acquired from fields closely related to the Statistical Science, such as Machine Learning, Bioinformatics, Database Design and Quering, and Visualization of High-dimensional Data

Oscar Reina – Senior Research Officer at IRB Barcelona.

MSc Computer Science (UPC) / MSc developmental biology and genetics (UB) and a PhD in biomedicine from the University of Pompeu Fabra (2018).
During the last years Oscar has combined the problem-solving approach acquired as a Computer Science engineer with a formal background in biology and genetics, as well as with a strong experience in biostatistics, developing and using computational methods for genomics data analysis, integration and visualization

Adrià Caballe– Research Officer at IRB Barcelona.

PhD in Statistics  (UoE) / MSc in Statistics and Operational research (UPC).
Adria’s background is purely in Data Science, as he studied both bachelor’s degree and master in statistics. He has recently completed his PhD at the University of Edinburgh developing statistical methods for high dimensional data. In the IRB, he’s employing and developing statistical and bioinformatics tools for omics data analysis.
