Winners of the Innovation Award
At the 34th Catalan National Research Awards, IRB Barcelona and the Catalan research institute ICREA received the National Innovation Award for launching Nuage Therapeutics, a spin-off focused on intrinsically disordered proteins in castration-resistant prostate cancer. Led by Dr. Xavier Salvatella and colleagues, Nuage uses a condensate-based platform to develop small molecules against targets that were previously considered “undruggable.”
The award reflects the Institute’s effort to translate academic discoveries into practical applications. By supporting Nuage, the Catalan government is underscoring how new approaches—such as modulating protein phase behaviour—can give rise to biotech ventures and draw investment into the region’s life-science sector.
