ERC Consolidator & Starting grants

Scientific projects

IRB Barcelona's research frontiers expand with two prestigious European Research Council grants: Dr. Fran Supek has been awarded an ERC Consolidator grant, while Dr. Stefanie Wculek has been awarded an ERC Starting grant.

Dr. Supek has been awarded an ERC Consolidator Grant to investigate the role of DNA mutations in cancer and aging, focusing on understanding how cells repair DNA and the implications for tumour development and age-related diseases. This research aims to uncover new therapeutic strategies to prevent or treat these conditions.

Dr. Wculek's "MyTissue" project, funded by an ERC Starting Grant, delves into how immune cells, particularly dendritic cells and neutrophils, adapt across different tissues and age. The goal is to enhance our understanding of immune system function over time, potentially leading to interventions to improve their function in the elderly.
