TRIP programme

Scientific projects

Three new laboratories bring together fundamental and clinical research to accelerate the delivery of results to patients.

IRB Barcelona has launched the Translational Research Innovation Programme (TRIP), a pioneering initiative aimed at accelerating the translation of scientific discoveries into clinical practice. This effort, supported by “la Caixa” Foundation and the Dept. of Health of the Government of Catalonia, merges fundamental and clinical research to tackle diseases like cancer more effectively.

The programme establishes three joint laboratories, co-led by fundamental researchers and medical doctors, focusing on emerging fields such as immuno-oncology, inflammation, and cellular senescence. One laboratory is led by Dr. Roger Gomis (IRB Barcelona), together with Drs. Aleix Prat, Laura Angelats and Sonia Guedan (IDIBAPS) and will focus on metastatic breast cancer. The second laboratory is formed by Dr. Salvador Aznar Benitah (IRB Barcelona) and Drs. Cristina Saura and Isabel Pimentel (Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO)), and proposes a new way to combat metastatic tumours, by directly blocking their energy source. The third research group is headed by Dr. Cristina Mayor-Ruiz (IRB Barcelona) and Dr. Cesar Serrano (VHIO) and will focus on applying targeted protein degradation to the treatment of gastrointestinal tract sarcomas.
