INFLAMMATION AND CHRONIC DISEASE

BARCELONA, Spain.   25 - 27 JUNE, 2007

The Barcelona BioMed Conference on Inflammation and Chronic Disease will be held in Barcelona, Spain, on the 25 - 27 June 2007.

Inflammation causes a large number of chronic diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, multiple sclerosis, inflammatory bowel disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.  In addition, considerable evidence indicates that inflammation is at the origin of other diseases including cancer and certain cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, such as atherosclerosis and type 2 diabetes, respectively.

These diseases are slowly disabling or fatal and affect a high percentage of the population. Current research efforts focus on dissecting the molecular and cellular mechanisms behind the inflammatory response in order to provide an extensive array of targets for the development of anti-inflammatory drugs.

The conference will provide an interdisciplinary forum for scientific investigators interested in the cellular and molecular mechanisms of the inflammatory/innate immune response and their involvement in the development of chronic inflammatory diseases.

Barcelona BioMed conferences bring together about 20 speakers, selected from among leading international researchers, in a highly focused think-tank atmosphere. An additional 40 participants, selected on the basis of their scientific experience, are invited to join.

Registration deadline: 30 April 2007

Organizer:
IRB Barcelona with the collaboration of the Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria Foundation (FBBVA).

Hosted by the Institut d'Estudis Catalans (IEC).
