SIGNAL REWIRING AND ADDICTION IN CANCER
Angel R. Nebreda (IRB Barcelona) and Tony Hunter (The Salk Institute, USA)
Barcelona, Spain. 19-21 September, 2011
Signaling pathways are often rewired during the process of malignant cell transformation to perform new functions that contribute to the uncontrolled proliferation and invasive capacity of cancer cells. Interestingly, signal rewiring is sometimes associated with another aspect of cancer cell biology termed addiction, in which cancer cells become dependent on particular signaling pathways for viability and/or proliferation. Of note, proteins that perform key functions in cancer cell homeostasis are not necessarily targeted by the original mutations responsible for cell transformation. The molecular mechanisms underlying signal rewiring and addiction in tumor cells are being actively investigated. It is likely that a better understanding of these processes will lead to the development of novel therapeutic strategies.
This conference brings together key experts in the fields of signal transduction and oncology to discuss current ideas and future avenues of research on the logic of signaling networks in cancer cells. The number of participants will be kept to a minimum to facilitate ample discussion and interactions in a relaxing atmosphere.
Registration deadline: July 15, 2011
There is no registration fee for this conference, but the number of participants is limited.
Participants are invited to submit abstracts, a number of which will be selected for short talk and poster presentations. Abstracts should include a title, authors, affiliations, summary (max 250 words) and references (max 3).
