Full Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Barcelona (1991-present). Visiting Professor, Laboratory of Prof. Paul F. Pilch, Dept. of Biochemistry, Boston University Medical School, (1992). Member of different Advisory Commitees.

Research activity focussed on the biology of glucose transporters and on the elucidation of the molecular mechanisms implicated in the development of insulin resistance, obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Has directed 20 doctoral theses, published over 160 articles (PubMed) and he has received 1,500 citations in 52 articles in the last 10 years (28.9 citations per article) in the field of Biology-Biochemistry (ISI Essential Science Indicator, ISI Web of Knowledge). Research activity has led to the filing of 10 patents, eight of them in exploitation by different companies.

He has co-founded several biotechnological companies. “Boehringer Award” from the Spanish Biochemical Society (1991). Young Investigator “Lilly” Award of the Spanish Society of Diabetes (1992). Research Award, Autonomous Government of Catalonia (Generalitat de Catalunya, 2001)
