IRB Barcelona and VHIO Collaboration
IRB Barcelona and the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) have launched a joint call to accelerate the translation of scientific discoveries into clinical solutions for patients. Funded by the Severo Ochoa Accreditation, this initiative pairs research groups from both institutions to support dedicated postdoctoral researchers for three years. The programme bridges fundamental and translational science to address unmet medical needs in oncology through strategic institutional collaboration.
Four projects led by IRB Barcelona researchers were selected to host these postdocs: Dr. Direna Alonso-Curbelo (pancreatic tumor ecosystems), Dr. Salvador Aznar-Benitah (breast cancer metastases), Dr. Raul Méndez (immunogenic neoantigens), and Dr. Francesc Posas (RB1 reactivation). These partnerships strengthen the synergy between the two centres to tackle complex challenges in cancer, with the aim to translate laboratory insights into future clinical applications and patient therapies.
