Severo Ochoa Distinction Renewed

IRB Barcelona has received its fourth consecutive Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence accreditation, a competitive and prestigious designation awarded by Spain’s State Research Agency. The renewal grants the institute €1 million per year for the next four years and recognizes its international leadership in areas such as immuno-oncology, chemical biology, and senescence.​

This endorsement strengthens IRB Barcelona’s strategic plan: the funding supports new talent, cutting-edge equipment, and collaborations that keep the centre among Europe’s top biomedical hubs. The distinction also gives priority access to national funding calls, helping the Institute translate basic discoveries into therapies for cancer and age-related diseases.​
