IRB Barcelona (Institute for Research in Biomedicine) is a world-leading biomedical centre at the forefront of cancer and metastasis research.
Founded in 2005 and located next to the F.C. Barcelona stadium, our institute hosts 455 researchers organized into 30 labs who work tirelessly to advance towards a future free of disease.
Our scientific team is made up of specialists from various disciplines (biologists, chemists, mathematicians, engineers, computer scientists, etc.) and 38 nationalities.
We have 9 scientific platforms with the most cutting-edge technology to accelerate the transformation of our discoveries into diagnostic tools and medicines for patients. This technology is available to our scientists, but we also share it with other research centers, universities, and hospitals with whom we collaborate.
Our scientific prestige is backed by numerous awards and recognitions, such as the two National Research Awards we received in 2024, the fact that we were the first research centre to receive the Severo Ochoa accreditation from the Ministry of Science four consecutive times, and we are one of only three institutes in the whole of Spain accredited as a Center of Excellence by the Spanish Association Against Cancer.
