What can you do to make yourself a more effective doctoral researcher and get the most out of your PhD?
BIST centers by using the VITAE’s framework, have organized an interactive and intensive two-day course: “How to succeed in your PhD?”, which has been designed for you as first year doctoral researcher and will look at practical ways to increase your effectiveness and meet the challenges of your PhD.
The course will cover
- Effective communication
- Team working
- Time management
- PhD project planning
- Creativity for promoting collaborative research
- Conflict management
Participants are placed in learning groups to work on a range of activities. From this you will gain awareness of your performance as an individual and in a team. You will use and develop skills that are essential for a researcher, such as communication, planning, time management, problem solving, conflict resolution, as well as building a greater self-awareness of your learning and working styles. Furthermore you will create good atmosphere to promote collaborative research among your peers from different scientific fields.
The ‘How to succeed in your PhD’ course is a two day, non-residential and interactive programme – and that it is compulsory to attend both days in full. This is because the sessions build on one another, and messages are frequently delivered across the sessions and days, rather than in discrete activities.
There are two equivalent courses with 30 participants each. Both courses have the same content and you will find PhD students from all BIST research centres.
- Course 1: 6 and 7 February 2020
