Mitochondrial Control of Immune Cells

8 Nov 27
- 10 Nov 27

Mitochondria sit at the core of immune cell decision-making. Beyond fuelling activation, they decide fate. Their shape, cristae architecture, membrane contacts, genome and core organelle functions generate signals that influence whether a T cell persists or exhausts, whether a macrophage inflames or resolves, and how tissues adapt to stress. By linking mitochondrial activities and molecular mechanisms to immune cell identity and function and tissue physiology, this meeting aims to build a more integrated view of mitochondria as active regulators of immunity.

Presentation

Mitochondrial Control of Immune Cells

Following mitochondrial control from molecules to cells, tissues and the whole organism, we will move from signals generated within the organelle to the decisions that shape innate responses and adaptive fate and memory. We will then move beyond the immune cell, exploring how tissue niches, danger signals, ageing and organism-wide crosstalk reshape mitochondrial and immune states, and how these principles can ultimately be harnessed to rewire immunity in physiology and disease.

Bringing together researchers across mitochondrial biology, immunology, metabolism and medicine, we will trace how mitochondrial states become immune states, uncover shared principles across scales and define the questions that will shape the next generation of research at the interface of mitochondria and immunity.
