New impetus for research on immunotherapy resistance

Scientific projects

IRB Barcelona is coordinating an international project led by Dr. Eduard Batlle to study why metastatic colorectal cancer develops resistance to immunotherapy. The ASPIRE grant from The Mark Foundation for Cancer Research, co-funded by the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), brings together leading partners, including CNAG and the Weizmann Institute of Science, to analyze how the tumour immune microenvironment evolves and how resulting changes block effective immune responses.

The project uses advanced single-cell technologies and experimental models that closely replicate human tumours to track immune dynamics during disease progression, to understand these mechanisms, and enable the development of more effective treatments for patients with advanced colorectal cancer.
