With a strong commitment to promoting scientific exchange and interdisciplinary collaboration, IRB Barcelona, together with the BBVA Foundation, launched the Barcelona BioMed Conference series in 2005. These events—held twice a year—have become one of the Institute’s flagship initiatives, offering an intensive “think-tank” environment where leading scientists from around the world gather to present and discuss emerging areas of cutting-edge biomedical research over two and a half days. To date, the conferences have addressed state-of-the-art topics across a variety of biomedical fields, ranging from cancer and AI in drug discovery and biomedicine to inflammation and chronic disease, to mention just a few.
A key partner of IRB Barcelona since its founding in 2005, the BBVA Foundation plays a central role in fostering the exchange of knowledge that defines these conferences. Each meeting typically brings together 20 internationally recognized speakers and around 150 participants, thereby fostering networking and interaction and creating an exceptional forum for scientific dialogue, inspiration, and discovery.
These conferences have traditionally been hosted in emblematic venues in the centre of Barcelona and are currently being held at the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site, the most important work of the Catalan architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner.
