La investigación de un grupo pequeño de células madre pasivas - quiescents- que se activan en caso de necesidad y tienen el poder de generar todos los tipos celulares del intestino, ha recibido una mención especial en la página web del Instituto de Salud (Health Institute) de la Fundación Carlos Slim.

Publicado en Cell Stem Cell y encabezado por Eduard Batlle en el IRB Barcelona, el estudio identifica un grupo de células quiescentes del intestino que son relevantes en regeneración de tejidos y por su participación en tumores.
