Mitigating bias: promoting diversity and sustainable excellence in research

Date: March 7th, 11h-13h (30’ networking included) Venue: sala Dolores Aleu Audience: open to all IRB Barcelona and IBEC members Speaker: Claartje Vinkenburg, PhD, associate professor of organizational behaviour affiliated with VU University Amsterdam, independent expert consultant. Dr Vinkenburg’s research activities, partly funded by the European Research Council, deal with gender and ethnic diversity in professional and academic careers as well as with sustainability in combining career and care.

Presentation

This 2-hour seminar aims to explore and explain the concept, causes and consequences of implicit or unconscious bias and how it affects careers, workplace culture, and work-family reconciliation in research organizations. In addition, ways to effectively promote diversity and inclusion in research by learning how to mitigate bias in the scientific career progression will be addressed.

At the end of the seminar there will be an opportunity for networking and for sharing experiences.
