Organizations of the industry, and associations connected to R+D+i express their support towards research, backing the petition of the Severo Ochoa and María de Maeztu alliance (SOMMa) which advocates in favour of the political class acting to clear the administrative problems currently affecting science in Spain.
SOMMa and the organizations supporting this initiative such as IRB Barcelona, represent close to 6,800 businesses, societies, centres and research units, which give employment to more than 500,000 people in Spain, and have an economic activity equivalent to 10,53 % of the gross domestic product.
The Severo Ochoa Centres and Maria de Maeztu Units Alliance (SOMMa) aims to promote Spanish science of excellence and safeguard its competitiveness
The creation of SOMMa will allow research centres and units to increase their impact, foster cooperation, work as a network, and enrich the R+D system.
SOMMa has presented a document to draw the attention of politicians to current administrative issues that urgently need to be addressed.
The Secretary of State for R&D+i, Carmen Vela, chaired the kickoff meeting of the new Severo Ochoa and Maria Maeztu Alliance of Excellence.
The alliance’s target is to internationally promote and strengthen the centres and units accredited with this distinction, to give their research a higher profile.
The renewal of the award, announced last October, brings with it 4 million euros of funding of the next four years.
