Biomedical professionals require skills to communicate effectively, both when writing and when presenting their research orally. However, many do not receive specific training for this purpose.
English is the language used by the international scientific community. Although Spanish biomedical professionals channel great efforts into learning English, they often lack the specialized knowledge of the language required to communicate their science clearly.
This training seminar aims to help students to improve their scientific English. The course introduces some basic concepts underlying the oral and written communication of science and gives participants the opportunity to put theory into practice in a relaxed open discussion and feedback session. Finally, it introduces tools and tips for the student once the course has finished.
3MT (Three Minute Thesis) is a research presentation competition that originated at the University of Queensland in 2008. Since then, the program has spread to several universities worldwide. This is the inaugural year for 3MT at IRB, and with active participation we hope that it will become an annual opportunity for PhD students.
The career development workshop for early career researchers will be the occasion to work on the participants experiences and share their questions. A large number of practical exercises and case studies are designed to help participants identify their skills and value them. Pedagogical resources are handed out at the session.
The course will be divided into two groups, each with 15 participants. Each group will attend two 4-h sessions, held over two consecutive weeks as follows:
- Group 1: Tuesday 21 and 28 April. 10:00 to 14:00
- Group 2: Thursday 23 and 30 April. 10:00 to 14:00
