El portal web Hidden Nature ha publicat un article sobre les 10 àrees de recerca més importants del 2018. Una d'elles fa referència a les teràpies epigenètiques i fan referència a l'estudi publicat a Nature Cell Biology, liderat per Salvador Aznar Benitah i Fran Supek de l'IRB Barcelona, que conclou que cal anar amb compte amb els fàrmacs que inhibeixen els factors epigenètics ja que podrien originar l'aparició de tumors agressius.

Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence, a seal that was awarded in 2011.
