IRB Barcelona is a self-standing, non-profit institution devoted to basic and applied biomedical research. It was set up in 2005 jointly by the Government of Catalonia and the University of Barcelona and is located at the Barcelona Science Park. The institute currently has more than 430 members (scientific, technical and administrative staff) from all over the world, who work across disciplines to advance research in the biomedical sciences.

The Stem Cell and Cancer group, headed by Prof. Salvador Aznar Benitah, is seeking to incorporate a Laboratory Technician to support a sponsored drug discovery program in collaboration with ONA Therapeutics S.L., a startup located at the ‘Parc Científic de Barcelona (PCB)’.

 

Ona Therapeutics is a biotech company, spin-off of ICREA and the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona), specialized in the discovery and development of therapeutic biologics targeting tumor metastatic-initiating cells and lipid metabolism (www.ona-therapeutics.com).

Duties: 
  • Proactively contribute to research activities with hands on experience.
  • Conduct experimental work, mainly in cancer mice in vivo models but also in vitro, for the profiling of different candidates.
  • Participate in scientific meetings.
Profile: 

Must Have – Required

  • Experience:
    • Proven background in mouse cancer models (at least 2 years’ experience) 
    • Demonstrated experience in cell culture

 

  • Knowledge:
    • Lab technician degree or MSc in life sciences
    • FELASA accreditation
    • Knowledge of Spanish and/or Catalan, and good skills in English

 

  • Skills:
    • Ability conduct experiments and to record data, in an independent, efficient and organized manner
    •             Capable of working independently or under guideline supervision
    • Good teamwork and interpersonal skills
    • Independent, motivated and collaborative person

 

 

 

Desirable

 

  • Experience:
    • Experience with in vivo imaging techniques
    • Experience with lab software: IVIS, electronic notebook
    • Experience with flow cytometry
