The fundamental aim of this call is to foster research in groundbreaking and highly relevant projects that lead the advancement of knowledge and offer solutions related to some of the most important health problems of our century. The ”la Caixa” Foundation seeks research projects of scientific excellence in its field, with potential value and a high social impact. The ”la Caixa” Foundation encourages projects with an innovative focus that cross the boundaries between different areas of research, aimed at new and emerging research fields and/or including unconventional approaches to problems of health.
The Call aims to support basic, clinical and translational research projects.
Proposals must be submitted in one of the following five Thematic Areas:
- Neuroscience
- Oncology
- Cardiovascular and associated metabolic diseases
- Infectious diseases
- Enabling technologies focused on the four previous thematic area
Projects must be led by non-profit Research Performing Institutions based in Spain or Portugal.
Proposals have to be submitted in one of two categories:
- Individual: Up to 0.5M€ over a 3 year period.
- Research Consortiums: Up to 1M€ over a 3 year period. Teams have to involve between 2 and 5 partners.
Please note that the correct allocation of the budget, adjusted to the activities to be developed in the project, will be a strictly evaluated criterion during the selection process.
Relevant key dates
Deadline: November 25, 2021, 14h CET.
Remote pre-selection by peer review: From January to April 2022.
Resolution announcement: June 2022.
Execution of selected projects: From September 2022 to December 2025.
- PL must have a minimum of 7 years of experience in postdoctoral research.
- Within the same call, each Project leader (PL) can only submit a single proposal as a PL. However, they can collaborate on other Projects as PI or as a Team Member.
- Previous awardees:
PLs of projects selected in the last three editions of the CaixaResearch Health Call cannot apply as PL to this edition of the call.
- Score from the previous CaixaResearch Health call:
PLs and PIs of proposals that scored less than 5.50 in the peer reviewed assessment of the previous edition (2021) will not be able to submit proposals as PLs to this edition (2022).
Similarly, the PL and PIs of projects that score less than 5.50 in the peer review assessment of this edition (2022), cannot submit proposals as a PL of the next edition (2023).
- Projects developing studies whose results are subject to rights, of any nature, held by for-profit organizations before the submission of the proposal are NOT eligible.
