Entrepreneurship & innovation training course optimised for biomedical researchers is aligned with market demands and strategic policies. This course seeks to empower junior scientists by giving them the tools to explore their potential as entrepreneurs and their interest in pursuing careers in business or innovation management, thereby increasing their employability in academia and beyond.

This is a high-level training course optimised for the biomedical field and that will empower you by providing the necessary tools to explore your skills as potential entrepreneurs, as well as business and innovation management skills.
After the completion of the course, participants will be familiar with the process of defining a business plan and gain the skills needed to apply strategy, product development, marketing, finance, and innovation concepts to support key decisions regarding the start of a new business.
The ENABLECARES entrepreneurship course will allow participants to:
- Acquire insights regarding strategy, product development, marketing, finance and innovation concepts relating to the creation of a new business in high-technology markets.
- Learn to apply these concepts to analyse the challenges encountered by entrepreneurs when starting a business in a high-technology / high-service context.
- Learn to substantiate the critical decisions underlying the development of a feasible business plan.

Gonzalo is a biotech entrepreneur specializing in advanced therapies and company creation. He is the co-founder and CEO of CureAge Therapeutics, a gene therapy company launched in collaboration with Deep Science Ventures and the Children’s Tumor Foundation. Gonzalo also co-founded Ninevah Tx, a gene therapy company, and Nanobots Tx, a nanoparticle company. Previously, he served as COO of Aptadel Therapeutics, an RNA company.
With a PhD in Molecular Biology from the Spanish National Cancer Centre (CNIO) and executive education from ESADE Business School, Gonzalo has over five years of experience in biotech management, fundraising and R&D strategy. Before transitioning to entrepreneurship, he was a Research Associate at IRB Barcelona.
Trainers
Tiago Botelho is currently a Senior Business Development Manager in the Innovation Department at IRB Barcelona, where he promotes interactions with industry and assists in establishing and managing public-private collaboration projects.
With over 15 years of experience in knowledge transfer, Tiago has demonstrated a strong ability to negotiate and finalize agreements with investors and companies. He has been actively involved in the creation of the last five spin-offs from IRB and in formalizing several licenses, significantly contributing to the translation of scientific research into marketable applications.
Tiago holds a PhD in Biotechnology from the University of Barcelona and is an alumnus of the Biomedicine PhD Program at the Gulbenkian Institute of Science in Lisbon. Additionally, he has completed supplementary training in disciplines related to entrepreneurship, enabling him to tackle innovation challenges from a global and practical perspective.
He also has experience teaching in master's courses related to science management, further showcasing his expertise and commitment to fostering knowledge and skills in the field of research and innovation.
Alba Olivares (Senior Technology Transfer Manager, IRB Innovation Department): She is responsible for identifying new discoveries and boosting the technology transfer process. Her role includes patentability analysis, Proof of Concept (PoC) development, and establishing licenses and EBT agreements. Of note, she coordinates innovation training initiatives such as the BIST-ESADE workshop, and IRB Bridges programme.
She holds a PhD in Biotechnology from the University of Barcelona and a BSc in Biotechnology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. In addition, she completed her postgraduate studies in Innovation Management at the University of Barcelona and she is a former President of the Catalan Association of Biotechnologists (ASBTEC).
Aina Segués (Innovation Officer, IRB Innovation Department): Within the Innovadors Program, her role includes activities for transferring technologies to the society by assessing the most optimal exploitation pathways.
She holds a PhD in Infection and Immunity from Utrecht University funded by H2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions. Graduated in Biomedical Sciences at University of Lleida and with a master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Industry at University of Barcelona.
