Abstract:

In this presentation, dynamic changes in cellular states as organisms age will be demonstrated, shedding light on the intricate interplay between cellular heterogeneity and the aging process. Emphasis will be placed on how cellular functions and responses to external stimuli are influenced by hepatic ploidy, which is triggered by a conserved program in response to genotypic stress, environmental stress, and/or aging. Additionally, the varied transcriptomic profiles exhibited by seemingly homogeneous populations of hepatocytes in response to a metabolic challenge will be highlighted. Overall, the investigation of the impact of cellular heterogeneity on tissue function during aging will open a new field of precision toxicology, promoting the development of safer drugs by analyzing age-related changes and chronic liver conditions at the single-cell level.
