Joan Guinovart receives one of the IX Gaudí Gresol Prizes

Organised by companies in Reus, these prizes are given in recognition of esteem and excellence of individuals working in various fields.

On 28 May, the “Fundación Gresol” announced the ten people to be recognized in the IX Edition of the Gaudí Gresol Prizes for Esteem and Excellence. Presented by the la Fundación Gresol and the Reus Town Council, these prizes are given in recognition of the merits and dedication of individuals with outstanding personal development and career paths to a range of fields.

The 10 awardees in this edition include Joan Guinovart, director of IRB Barcelona and full professor of the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department of the University of Barcelona, in the category of Science. The other awardees are as follows: Víctor Grífols for Business Leadership; Rafael Moneo for Architecture; Josep Maria Pou for Art and Theatre; Josep Maria Martí for Journalism; Elena Arzak for Gastronomy; Maribel Verdú for Cinema; Xavier Bosch for Literature; Toni Albà for Television; and Maria Isabel Correig for Solidarity.

The prize presentation will be held on 11 June in the Antoni Gaudí Auditorium in the Exhibition and Convention Centre of Reus. The event will include a fundraising dinner, each dinner costing 55 euros, which will be attended by representatives from the business sector and civil society. The proceeds will be given to the project underway at the ELIKYA Centre for needy children in the Congo, which is headed by the nun Maria Isabel Correig, also from Reus and one of the awardees.

Currently comprising 150 representatives from some of the most important companies in the zone, the “Fundación Gresol” was set up to promote the exchange of ideas and to foster and strengthen networking of business interests in the area.

In previous years these awards went to Valentí Fuster, Josep Oliu, Luis del Olmo, Pau Gasol, Manel Esteller, Ferran Adrià, Juan A. Samaranch, Lluís Bassat, Ángeles González-Sinde and Antoni Brufau.
