On Monday December 13, the director of the Institute of Research in Biomedicine, Joan J. Guinovart, the rector of the University of Lleida, Joan Viñas, the doctor in medicine, Ramon Bartron, the vet and ex-rector of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Lluís Ferrer, and the scholar of Romanic Studies, Vicente Beltrán were named tenured members of the Institute of Catalan Studies.

The Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) pursues a society free of disease. To this end, it conducts multidisciplinary research of excellence to cure cancer and other diseases linked to ageing.
