Local newspaper “El Punt Avui” and other media have echoed on the investiture of Joan Massagué, director of the Sloan Kettering Institute in New York, as Doctor Honoris Causa by the Universitat Ramon Llull (URL).

Co-founder of IRB Barcelona and president of its External Advisory Board, Joan Massagué is internationally recognised for his contributions to the study of tumour cell migration to other organs, a process known as metastasis.

During the award ceremony, Joan Massagué stressed the importance of focusing research on preventing metastasis, because "it is the most lethal complication of cancer," causing 90% of the deaths by cancer in patients with solid tumours.
