IRB Barcelona participates in 10th “Live Research” Fair organized by the PCB and Welfare Programme of the Catalunya Caixa

From tomorrow 24 April until Thursday 26 April, “La Pedrera” building of Barcelona will host the 10th “Live Research” Fair. Organized by the Barcelona Science Park in collaboration with the Welfare Programme of the Catalunya Caixa, this event allows the public to get close to the cutting edge research performed in Barcelona. Over these three days, scientists working at IRB Barcelona uproot and move their test tubes to the emblematic building known as “La Pedrera”, where they will talk to visitors and show them some of the experiments done every day in their labs.

The researchers Helena González, who is with IRB Barcelona’s Genomic Instability and Cancer Lab, headed by Travis Stracker, and Giuseppe Pulice, from Carme Caelles’s lab, devoted to Cell Signalling, will give the talk-workshop entitled “Radiotherapy: Breaking down DNA”, in which they will show how they study DNA and how they apply the knowledge obtained in the lab to find new treatments against cancer. The IRB Barcelona stand will offer participants the opportunity to cut up DNA and identify cancer cells under a microscope. The fair also involves scientists from other research centres in Catalonia. By joining forces, these scientists aim to show the public the fascinating and fun side of science and to emphasize the contribution it makes to our quality of life.
