The business newspaper Cinco Días has placed Catalonia at the Spanish vanguard of the biotechnological field. Biocat is the organization that promotes and coordinates the efforts carried out in this region and that hosts 21% of the biotech companies in the country. Montserrat Vendrell, general director of Biocat, highlights the quality of hospitals and public research centres in this autonomous region and draws attention to IRB Barcelona, and the work performed by its Adjunct Director Joan Massagué to consolidate it as a reference centre, as an example of success.
