Abstract

The development of artificial metalloenzymes (ArMs) that catalyze novel transformations and expand the repertoire of biocompatible reactions available in living cells is a major research challenge at the intersection of catalysis, protein engineering, and chemical biology. Catalytic metallopeptides, halfway between conventional transition metal catalysts and protein-based ArMs, may hold the key to efficient catalysis in biological settings. In this context, we will describe the latest advances in our group in the development of catalytic metallopeptides using rational methods and combinatorial chemistry.
