The media outlets La Vanguardia and Informativos Telecinco echoed the work of Ana María Cuervo, a world expert in cellular cleaning and recycling, and invited speaker at the recent Barcelona BioMed Conference on “Mitochondrial Autophagy” organized by IRB Barcelona and the BBVA Foundation. The latest results of Cuervo’s group connect cell cleaning and aging. Manipulating cell cleaning processes directly in the liver cells of ageing mice, they found that their livers could clear away more defective proteins: “These mice were like 80-year-old people, but their livers were functioning as if they were 20.”
