The summer edition of the magazine of the Associació Catalana d'Entitats de Salut (ACES) includes an interview with IRB Barcelona director Joan J. Guinovart, in which he goes over his career and his work as head of the Institute, with a special focus on the research context in Catalonia.

During the interview, Joan J. Guinovart stresses the importance of awareness regarding disease prevention: "Educating the public about health is an important step towards responsibility and it is an element that should be part of strategies seeking to promote a more preventive medicine."

He also talks about the possibility of having a Nobel Prize winner in the field of science: "Things happen for a reason. Contemplating the possibility of a Nobel Prize in our country in the seventies and eighties was impossible: we had neither the mind set nor the system. Now, I am sure a Catalan scientist will win the Nobel Prize one day."
